Red Dwarf September 24, 2010

Title: An Infinite Number of Roads to Dallas
Author: EllieLaBelle
Rating: PG
Word Count: 1937
Characters: Ninth Doctor, Rose Tyler, Dave Lister, Arnold Rimmer, Cat, Kryten

The Doctor was said to be at Dallas in 1963. So were quite a number of other time travellers, including a certain gang who were only in search of a decent curry. This is brilliant, from the Hitch-Hiker-esque intro on time travel, the nods to other time travellers who were also hanging around, the Doctor’s reaction to the Dwarfers’ current plan and the ending. Another example of a fanfic author making excellent use of a throwaway line from an episode.

Title: I’ll Show You Mine
Author: moonmama
Rating: PG
Word Count: 2255
Characters: Tenth Doctor, Jack Harkness, Jadzia Dax

This is very entertaining (even to someone as ignorant of DS9 as me), as the characters vie with each other as to who’s had the worst deaths…

Title: Martian Boy Mk II, Cortina Mk III

Short and very funny. With Donna and Gene and Ray. ‘Nuff said, surely?

Upstairs, Downstairs

Title: 165 Eaton Place
Author: JJPOR
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 4431
Characters: Gerald Carter, Harriet Derbyshire, Richard Bellamy, Mr Hudson, Mrs Bridges, Edward, Rose, Daisy, Ruby, James Bellamy, Lord Charles Gilmour/ The Master,

An unexpected crossover in which Edwardian Torchwood need to retrieve something from the Bellamy household, who are currently playing host to a guest, who is very familiar to those who know Doctor Who. It’s just marvellous fun, and there’s no real need to know anything at all about the cross (or even Gerald and Harriet, althouh if you haven’t read JJPOR’s other stories about them, you should), other than Lord Charles Gilmour was played by Anthony Ainley.

Hitch-hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy September 8, 2010

Title: The Hitchhiker’s Guide to Surviving a Dalek Invasion
Author: atraphoenix
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 1038
Characters: Alan Jackson, Maria Jackson, Arthur Dent, Ford Prefect, Trillian, Marvin, Zaphod Beeblebrox

This is short and funny, and note-perfect, which for a Hitchhiker cross is surely recommendation enough. In which the invasion of Earth is foiled in typical random manner, and there are lots of lovely, amusing throwaway snippets, and did I say it was voice-perfect?

Title: The Recitation of the Daleks
Author: Jessa L’Rynn
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 2559
Characters: Fourth Doctor, Arthur Dent, K9 Daleks

Another fun cross, with particular credit going to the treatment of Arthur’s search for tea (and this incarnation’s ability to stash cups in his pocket) and Arthur giving the Doctor and K9 the answer to the universe.
