Star Crossed

Doctor Who fanfiction crossovers recs & more

Lord of the Rings / J R R Tolkien February 5, 2011

Title: Through the rain curtain
Author: Eledhwen
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 13,164
Characters: Ninth Doctor, Tenth Doctor, Donna Noble, Ronald Reuel Tolkien, Faramir, Aragorn, Gimli, Frodo, Gandalf, Legolas.

I’m torn between putting this in my historical recs rather than here, as it’s perhaps more that than a crossover, but anyway, one of those fics where the author gets all his ideas from a visit to a planet that I don’t usually like, but which is done with a great deal of love for the author in question – Eledhwen clearly knows Tolkien’s history, and uses it well, including the links between Faramir and Tolkien himself. Let’s just say it’s something a bit different, and well worth a read.

Title: One Does Not Simply Materialize into Middle Earth
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 1803
Characters: Tenth Doctor, Martha Jones, Gandalf, Elrond, Legolas, Boromir, Aragorn, Gimli

Crossing Doctor Who with a book or show that aceepts the existence of magic is always one of the hardest tricks to pull off and this one does it by being as amusing as possible. I just dread to think what the Doctor might end up actually doing with the ring, cos it’s not as if stuff ever goes to plan for him…

Title: Lands of Fiction
Author: ClocketPatch
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1245
Characters: Ninth Doctor, Frodo Baggins, Sam Gamgee

Nine takes the test of the Ring. This feels entirely like a missing scene from Sam & Frodo’s journey – and this is a cross I’d have been very wary of in other circumstances.
