Doctor Who fanfiction crossovers recs & more

Sapphire & Steel December 7, 2011

Title: Pets
Author: hearts_blood
Rating: All ages
Word Count:
Characters: Fourth Doctor, Steel, Sarah Jane Smith

An excellent and interesting short crossover, but it will make a lot more sense if you have seen Assignment Three of Sapphire & Steel. (So also has some mild spoilers for that story.) But I like the meeting and the way it works, because the two universes aren’t as easy to mesh as they seem on appearances.

Title: Interlude in Café-Space
Author: Annariel
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 665
Characters: Romana II, K9, Sapphire, Steel

In which Romana provides a neat and well-done fixit for Sapphire & Steel’s final episode – so beware spoilers if you’re unfamiliar with the crossover show.

Last of the Summer Wine April 5, 2011

Title: The Barmpot and the Skoth
Author: Gary Merchant
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 3152
Characters: Fourth Doctor, Foggy Dewhurst, Compo Simmonite, Norman Clegg, Howard, Marina, Ivy, Nora Batty, Pearl, K9

Perfectly in keeping with both shows. This is funny and charming and a light romp across the Dales. It really wouldn’t seem surprising if the Doctor had actually popped up like this in Summer Wine, somehow.

Title: Flight of Fancy
Author: vvj5
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 316
Characters: Fourth Doctor, Romana I, K9, Han Solo, Princess Leia, The TARDIS, Millennium Falcon

A near-collision in space.

Hitch-hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy September 8, 2010

Title: The Hitchhiker’s Guide to Surviving a Dalek Invasion
Author: atraphoenix
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 1038
Characters: Alan Jackson, Maria Jackson, Arthur Dent, Ford Prefect, Trillian, Marvin, Zaphod Beeblebrox

This is short and funny, and note-perfect, which for a Hitchhiker cross is surely recommendation enough. In which the invasion of Earth is foiled in typical random manner, and there are lots of lovely, amusing throwaway snippets, and did I say it was voice-perfect?

Title: The Recitation of the Daleks
Author: Jessa L’Rynn
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 2559
Characters: Fourth Doctor, Arthur Dent, K9 Daleks

Another fun cross, with particular credit going to the treatment of Arthur’s search for tea (and this incarnation’s ability to stash cups in his pocket) and Arthur giving the Doctor and K9 the answer to the universe.

Blake’s 7 April 20, 2010

Title: Discovery
Author: wolfma
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 578
Characters: Kerr Avon, Tenth Doctor

Short and sweet, but entirely in character for both. (Maybe a little more of a B7/Dw crossover than a DW/B7, but Ten is so very Ten at the end…)

Title: It’s All Glamour and Guns in Outer Space
Author: vvj5
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 3671
Characters: Fourth Doctor, Romana I, K9, Jenna Stannis, Servalan, Vila Restal, Roj Blake, Kerr Avon

A bit of nonsense I should have been ashamed of, but am still posting here: Blake’s blowing up the wrong target, the Doctor’s on the wrong planet, but the important thing is that Romana, Jenna and Servalan are having fun in a futuristic fashion boutique.

Ramona – Beverly Cleary April 15, 2010

Title: Ramona and the Blue Box
Author: Primsong
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 8837
Characters: Fourth Doctor, Romana II, K9, Ramona Quimby

A crossover from Primsong is a rare and beautiful thing and this is a joy from start to finish. No aliens, or end of the world threats, but a lot of fun and some nice juxtaposition of the two worlds that collide here. I think I may, once have read one of the Ramona books, but I can still recommend this engaging fic wholeheartedly.

Title: Romeo, Juliet, young John and the Doctor
Author: Wizard of Os
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 1515
Characters: Fourth Doctor, Romana II, K9, John Webster

An enjoyable and unusual crossover, with a minor (historical) character getting a bit of an education in between scenes.
