Highlander February 15, 2012

Title: Friendly Drink
Author: KerrAvonson
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 450
Characters: Ninth Doctor, Rose Tyler, Methos, Duncan Macleod

Amusing vignette – the confusion of non-linear meetings for time travellers and immortals… (The author has also written two drabble crossovers with Methos and the Doctor: Geodesy – the First Doctor in the Library of Alexandria – and Fall, a double drabble featuring the Second Doctor and Methos in the Himalayas).

Title: Twisting Timelines
Author: amaresu
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 1737
Characters: Tenth Doctor, Martha Jones, Methos (slight Methos/Martha)

I don’t really know Highlander (still) but this is a well-written, thoughtful crossover, with Martha and Methos (and the Doctor) meeting in a non-linear way, not unlike River Song and the Doctor would later.

Stargate (SG1) June 17, 2011

Title: A Jaffa, an archaeoogist and two Air Force officers walk into a library
Author: aces
Rating: All ages.
Word Count: 1289
Characters: Eleventh Doctor, Amy Pond, Rory Williams, Daniel Jackson, Jack O’Neill, Teal’c, Sam Carter

A lovely bit of fun in which the two teams meet in a library, and there is world-threatening danger and the Doctor and Daniel bonding over bow ties, books and the promise of a visit to yet another library.

Title: T is for Time (Non-Encounters of the Deeply Weird Kind)
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 3223
Characters: Fourth Doctor, Leela, Eighth Doctor, Second Doctor, Jamie McCrimmon, Zoe Heriot, Sixth Doctor, Peri Brown, Third Doctor, Fifth Doctor, Tenth Doctor, Martha Jones, Seventh Doctor, Ninth Doctor, First Doctor, Ian Chesterton, Barbara Wright, Eleventh Doctor, Daniel Jackson, Sam Carter, Jack O’Neill, Teal’c, Vala Mal Doran.

Highly entertaining multi-era fic in which the team encounter all of the Doctors without ever realising it’s the same person.

Title: gate Travel
Author: Apple Cameron
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 127
Characters: The Doctor, his companion (any era you choose), the Star Gate

The Doctor, not overly impressed by the Gate.

Title: Crime Scene
Author: Aja
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 346
Characters: Ninth Doctor, Rose Tyler, Lennie Briscoe

Short vignette, but wry, in character and very readable. You just know this one isn’t going to be straightforward…

His Dark Materials / Philip Pullman May 22, 2011

Title: A Wind From Another World
Author: Poetry
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 27,465
Characters: Ninth Doctor, Rose Tyler, Jack Harkness, Lyra etc.

Long, well-written crossover fic for Philip Pullman’s series.

Title: The Streets of St Louis
Author: Mhalachi
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 6119
Characters: Ninth Doctor, Rose Tyler, Jack Harkness, Nathaniel Graison

I don’t know the details of the crossover, but this author does these brief encounter fics particularly well, and this is another nice example.

Xena the Warrior Princess April 27, 2011

Title: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Athens
Author: LilacFree
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 4928
Characters: Ninth Doctor, Rose Tyler, Xena, Gabrielle, Ares

A lively, entertaining crossover fic (even for someone who doesn’t know much about Xena). There are some nice tongue-in-cheek observations about the historical accuracy (or lack of it), but everything is done in the spirit of fun, making for an enjoyable read.

Title: Ice and Fire
Author: Rivendellrose
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 1561
Characters: Ninth Doctor, Spock

Excellent brief crossover with Star Trek XI. Two survivors exchange stories.

Title: If You Don’t Like the Weather, Just Wait Five Minutes
Author: infiniteviking
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 756
Characters: Amy Pond, Leonard McCoy

Gorgeously written conversational crossover (and, as far as I can see, it’s genuinely TOS in this case, which is a bonus). Amy Pond walks into a bar and meets another doctor…
